What is a Specialist Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontics is the area of dentistry that involves replacement of tooth and associated structures. Prosthodontists are highly trained in the following areas:

  • Replacing teeth with dentures, bridges, dental implants
  • Restoring broken down teeth with restorations and crowns
  • Management of tooth-wear
  • Rehabilitation of a broken down dentition
  • Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ)

Prosthodontists are integral to a multi-faceted restorative plan and are best placed to lead the restorative management.

A Specialist Prosthodontist is registered with General Dental Council and are individually recognised on a Specialist List. To be accepted on this list, an experienced dentist is required to meet certain conditions and minimum standard of training. Preeyan undertook four years of specific post-graduate training within Prosthodontics and is now heavily involved in the training of postgraduate dentists on a similar pathway.

“I have to say that when I told you that I had decided to do something at last about the high level of wear on my front teeth I had a procedure in mind that would be very extended and quite stressful. Well it was not like that at all, after a considerable amount of detailed preparation I came in one day and sometime later went out with a set of top front teeth that were amazing. Part of the initial discussions were that I did not want a row of tombstones and a reshaped face, you said this would not happen and it did not. I found your interest, and care to be as good as the final job was professional. My thanks to you for a great set of teeth.”
