Dental Implant Surgeon
MDDr, Dip Imp Dent RCS (Eng) GDC No:212796
I’m originally from the Czech Republic, and my interest in the human body and beauty began in my hometown. In my early years had a real desire to learn more about how the human body works, I found myself fascinated by the medical profession and loved hearing stories from my parent’s friends who were all doctors and dentists.
As I got older, I realised I enjoyed working with my hands and Dentistry felt like a great mixture of being able to help people whilst also being involved with the medical profession, so from there I started my dentistry journey!
My career so far
I studied at the Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The Faculty of General Medicine and Dentistry is internationally recognised around the world. The study program included a focus on preventive dentistry and cardiology, including prosthetic technology, dental radiology, orthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics.
After graduating in 2011, I moved to England where I began work as a Senior House Officer at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals, where I trained in all aspects of Maxillofacial and Surgical Dentistry, handling a wide range of conditions and injuries that affect the head, neck, mouth, jaw, and face.
In 2013 I moved to Bicester to practice General Dentistry and in 2014 I started studying for my ITI foundation year in Implant Dentistry and started to fully concentrate on working as an implant dentist.
It was around this time that I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Chris Wood. Chris has extensive experience in oral surgery as well as general and cosmetic dentistry. Chris was one of the first practitioners to qualify with the Diploma in Advanced Implant Dentistry, and he soon became my mentor in this area, helping me place my first implant!
After working alongside Chris, I was delighted to be asked to join the team at Audley Dental Solutions as an Associate Implantologist, where I have been developing my expertise in implant dentistry ever since.
In 2018 I successfully gained a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons, a great personal and professional achievement - not least because I was one of only five implant surgeons to qualify so far from my year group.
I am now a fully qualified Implant Surgeon, with one of the most highly respected implant qualifications in the UK, accepting referrals ‘in my own right’. Chris and I work as a team on more complex cases, and I enjoy learning from his many years of experience in Implantology.
I continue to develop my skills and attend Implant Symposia and Congresses across Europe to ensure I keep up to date with the latest techniques and research.
Why I love implant surgery
I love how implant surgery can change how people feel about themselves, it can be truly life-changing for some, especially those with low self-confidence.
A good smile can be really important to people as it helps radiate happiness from within. People come to me not wanting to smile or even look at photographs of themselves. After treatment, my patients often send me photos for years after of them smiling and feeling great about their teeth, which is hugely rewarding and honestly makes my job feel so worthwhile.
The team at Audley Dental Solutions
Audley Dental Solutions is a really wonderful place to work because we are all passionate about our jobs and have the same goals for how we want patients to feel about coming to us for treatment.
We felt it was really important to have a space to work where people feel at ease immediately, and we couldn’t be happier at our premises in Stratton Audley, Bicester, a gorgeous barn welcoming patients from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The barn has a modern and spacious feel with plenty of onsite parking.
We designed the clinic ourselves and so we could ensure we had space for all the latest equipment and to create a nice, relaxed waiting room (with air purifiers) that doesn’t feel like you are walking into a sterile environment.
We pride ourselves on our high ethics. Our patient’s best interests are at the heart of everything we do. We all understand that going to the dentist isn’t everyone’s favourite thing to do and so we work hard to make the whole experience as comfortable as possible.
One of our patients recently said about us “it no longer feels like going to the dentist, it feels like going to visit friends” and that is true for us as well. You build a complex relationship with people over a period of months and they really do become part of the ‘Audley family’.
Dr Chris Wood and I are Implant Surgeons. Chris specialises in bone grafting and same-day teeth, and I tend to focus on extractions that are referred to us from other practices. We have a brilliant and fully capable team, with Dr Pritiesh Raval who is a Periodontist, Kate Barker is our Dental Hygienist and Jane Bower is Treatment coordinator and our Centre Manager.
Patients need to have healthy teeth before we can install implants. People generally come to see us for a consultation for dental implants but we then find there are other issues that need to be addressed like tooth decay and general changes in the mouth. We refer these patients to our Specialist Prosthodontist, Preeyan Patel who creates a treatment plan to help get everything sorted and refer to Kate Barker, our dental hygienist where necessary. It really is a journey we go on with each patient, as everyone is unique and individual, and we work hard to make sure everything is done perfectly to suit our patient's needs and requirements.
Audley Dental Solutions is perfectly located in Stratton Audley, a beautiful Oxfordshire village close to Bicester, Brackley, Witney and Oxford. The location is near the M40 for those coming to see us from Banbury, Warwickshire or London.
Memorable cases
One of the most memorable cases was a man in his early fifties, who had no teeth at all and had been wearing full upper and lower dentures for years. He had been previously told that he wasn’t suitable for implants. During our consultation, we explored the possibility of some implants to at least support his dentures and keep them secure. He cried when we finished because he was so happy with the result and would always send me pictures of his dinner because he was so happy about the things he could eat again that he hadn’t been able to for years.
It really is so wonderful to make such a difference to someone’s life through the work we do.
How long can people expect dental implants to last?
All the research and scientific evidence shows that the majority of implants can last for at least 20 years. We don’t have the data yet to say they last for life because it is a fairly recent procedure, but we hope as the years go on, it will continue to show that they last longer and longer. It is not uncommon to see people whose implants have lasted for thirty years!
Our main objective is to make patients feel comfortable and confident with the outcome.
Patients leave with an understanding of how to look after their new mouth and they know that they have a five-year guarantee and can come back to us at any time with any issues.
