A safe way to restore lost jaw bone to ensure long-term success with implants

When performing dental implant surgery, we have to ensure the implant is surrounded by enough healthy bone to support the tooth for the long term because when you lose a tooth, get an infection, trauma or gum disease, the jaw can lose some of the bone around it.

If there isn’t enough bone for us to be confident the implant will enjoy a long life, we can perform a process called bone grafting (or augmentation) to re-build the missing bone.

When you visit our clinic for your dental implant consultation, we will check how much bone is available and assess its shape by using 3D imaging software called ‘Cone beam computed tomography’. If we find there is not enough, then the shape and volume of bone can be grafted.

This software also allows the ‘virtual’ positioning of an implant at the planned position to accurately determine whether the ideal amount of bone is present, or if not, then the shape and volume of bone to be grafted or ‘augmented’.

Bone Grafting

How bone grafting works

At Audley Dental Solutions we generally employ two types of bone grafting:

  • Guided Bone Regeneration allows us to use human, animal, plant or synthetic materials, ground up and moulded around the implant. We then cover it with collagen membrane and allow it to heal under the gum.
  • Block Grafting, where a block of bone (human) is positioned in the required area and allowed to heal prior to placement of the implant.

We have had great success with both of these techniques. In fact, our Principal Implantologist, Dr Chris Wood, is one of the few in the UK to pioneer techniques developed by Professor Giesenhagen in Stuttgart (Botiss bone ring ® and Botiss Bone Builder ®). He has made several trips to Germany and also to Vienna medical school to perfect his skills with these treatments.

Complications or failures are exceptionally rare, which means that patients presenting with the challenges of reduced bone volume, who have healthy mouths, can nearly always enjoy the benefits that implant treatment can provide.

It isn’t as scary as it sounds and complications or failures are exceptionally rare. Our patients have experienced great success with all of the various treatments. If your mouth is healthy then having a reduced bone volume shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the benefits of implant treatment.

The benefits of choosing bone grafting treatment

  • Ensures longer-term success rate of dental implants
  • Creates a ‘fuller’ jaw, preventing a ‘shrunken’ face look
  • Safe procedure with extremely high success rate
  • Improved dental function
  • Enhanced confidence and appearance

Pricing

Bone Grafting or Augmentation pricing starts from £595.

We offer our patients a flexible way to pay for their treatment using our Audley Dental Finance Scheme. This breaks the cost of your treatment into manageable monthly installments.

Despite lasting longer, and being easier to maintain, the cost of dental implants is actually not much more than you would pay for more conventional dental treatments, such as dentures and bridges. So, it actually works out to be far more cost-effective in the long run.

In addition to the upfront dental implant cost, you also need to consider aftercare. However, as long as you look after your dental implant with proper cleaning, and attend all follow-up checks, you won’t actually need to spend much more to keep your implants healthy.

Another thing to consider is the difference that a dental implant will make to your life, and weighing up what that will be worth to you in terms of monetary value. We have received plenty of feedback to say how dental implants have improved people’s lives – it’s hard to put a price on that feeling.

Our fees are not the cheapest, but we guarantee to use the most advanced methods for planning your surgery, to use our extensive surgical expertise and to employ only the best materials and products to provide you with high quality, predictable implant solution.
